Election Videos

The House reconvened at 1:00 pm EST today for a Joint Session with the Senate to count and certify the Electoral College Ballots. The Vice President handed the state certificates to the tellers and the tellers then read the certificates from each state to the House chamber. The Vice President, at the conclusion of the reading of certificates, directed the tellers to deliver the results of the count. The Vice President announced the certified election results for the positions of President and Vice President of the United States - officially announcing Barack Obama the President-Elect and Joe Biden the Vice-President-Elect.

@fodderoni I have watched the part hat you reference and hear no attempt at an objection. I hear cheers and applause, but nothing else. Is there a single member of Congress who has stated that they tried to make an objection at any time? If not, then I think your perception is rather mistaken.

@fodderoni Where? Rep. Tubbs-Jones intervened and stated that she had an objection, but I didn't see any point at which he asks for objections to the certificate from ohio or any other state.

In 2005 he DID ask for objections.

Cheney did not call for objections as is required by law. 3 U.S.C. § 15, Congress is directed to be in session on the appropriate date to count the electoral votes for President, with the President of the Senate presiding. The statute further directs that the electoral votes be counted, and then the results be presented to the President of the Senate, who shall then announce the state of the vote. The statute then provides a mechanism for objections to be registered and resolved.
