a suggestion about federal extensions is maybe they should just trim the amount of money that way they will weed out the people who stay on it till it runs out then get a job. for example someone gets 350 wk the 1st 6 months of state benefits. after that the federal is 25% less at 262.50 wk. where the people looking will still have some $ coming in. if it does not pass in November everyone should apply for welfare which will cost the government more than unemployment insurance

I can't believe this man said unemployment did not help the recovery in the past. Does he not realize that it is longest when a REPUBLICAN is in office. Then he said it pays out as he jesters BIG benefits! LIAR! You know it only pays a FRACTION of each persons pay. Then they say people use benefits to stay out of the labor force. For what? Get behind in your electric bill? Go in debt for groceries? I know they use it to buy a big fancy mansion with a BIG O average of $300 a week 4b taxes!

Which presidents had the longest unemployment benefits extension? 1 Ronald Reagan -REPUBLICAN 3.5 years of unemployment.2 Gerald Ford -REPUBLICAN 3.2 years of unemployment.3 George Bush2004 -REPUBLICAN 3 years of unemployment.Yet like the hypocrites they are they call it welfare when Obama wants it to be longer than 1.9 years! Even though they where not dealing with the worst collapse since WWII. They are doing this to sabotage the recovery, to get elected in November.

@moniequa you can't quit and collect unless you where in danger, or harassed. You only get 35% of YOUR previous pay or $390 max which ever s LESS. A little more in some states. You prepay %1.5 pay deduction ALL the years you are working. Republicans have this cold heart ed stance against unemployed because they repeat lies from leaders 30 million unemployed with no income=third world. Republicans are stopping unemployment to sabotage the recovery so they can get elected.

@willisapril, If collecting unemployment is so difficult why so people are applying for it and why extend the benefit? I think we should close the unemployment offices altogether, people who receive it say its not enough and people who pay for it complaint its too much. The best solution to it is to do away with that useless department altogether.
willisapril (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@moniequa you can't collect unemp if you quit. when you file they call your work to find out what happened. unnemployment insurance is for people who lost their job of no fault of their own. if you believe that then quit your job and apply for it and you will find out yourself. the only way to collect is to get laid off. when i collected 2 years ago i hated it. i had no $ and all i did was look for a job. I was making 800 wk at my job and got 350 before taxes which sucked
moniequa (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@willisapril, yes you can collect unemployment if you quit or get laid off. You can cut down expenses by living with friends, you can sleep late and shop or go to the movies. Most of my friends are doing that right now and I'm jealous of them.
willisapril (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@moniequa 1st of all if you quit a job or are fired for cause you can't collect and 2nd you only get half your gross pay . so unless you live at home with your parents and have no bills why would you want it ? to sleep all day ?

now that they ended the war in Iraq funding it should not be an issue. when they vote again in November. the republicans have no excuse to vote against it.
indyman77 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@PatriotWatchUSA What are you talking about? They separated it on it;s own and EVERY REPUBLICAN STILL VOTED AGAINST IT! |
